This is Falstaff. Notice the buckles in his boots. They resemble buckles shown in the next slide: buckles typical of an axially compressed rather thick cylindrical shell. The top of Falstaff’s left boot has “buckled” approximately axisymmetrically, and the part near his instep on both boots has buckled non-axisymmetrically. Both of these modes of deformation are displayed in the next slide.
