Professor Rudolph Szilard (1921 – 2009)

Biography:
After years of battling cancer, Rudolph Szilard passed away on January 20, 2009. He was born on August 26, 1921 in Hungary, immigrated to the United States in 1949 and became a citizen in 1954. He had been a Colorado Springs resident for the last 21 years. Rudolph Szilard received his education in Hungary, including his engineering degree, and his doctorate in structural mechanics from the University of Stuttgart. His academic career spanned many decades, during which he taught at various universities in the USA and Germany. He was the recipient of numerous awards, most notably the Senior Fellowship Award by the A. von Humboldt Foundation, Germany. He was also the author of eight books on structural mechanics.
