Example 9, Slide 25: Deformed pre-buckled state of the shell meridian at theta=0, axial acceleration

This is the left-hand part of Fig. 21a from the 2013 GENOPT paper1. Shown here is the deformed meridian at circumferential coordinate, theta = 0 degrees. critical and near-critical stresses and their locations under Load Case 1 (axial acceleration plus ullage pressure + propellant tank cool-down) as predicted from the GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4 model. The struts are not shown because in the linear non-axisymmetric stress analysis the struts are replaced in the GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4 model by the concentrated loads that they apply to the propellant tank.
