Example 11, Slide 2: This STAGS finite element model clearly shows the geometry of a typical panel of the type treated in this paper

This slide and the next 27 slides are from what is called "2014 GENOPT paper" cited in the previous slide.

The purpose of showing this finite element STAGS model here is to give a clear picture of a typical panel geometry of the type treated in this paper. The typical panel has overall length, LENGTH, and width, WIDTH. It has a plane of symmetry at the mid-width. The panel cross-section consists of a number of cylindrical segments joined generator-to-generator.

Minimum-weight optimization is carried out with the use of GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4. STAGS is NOT used inside the optimization loop, but is used to verify GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4 predictions of local and general buckling of panels of this type that have already been optimized by GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4.
