EXAMPLE 6, Slide 13: Load-end-shortening curves from STAGS for optimized axially compressed stiffened cylindrical shells with three weld lands

This is Fig. 47 from the 2010 GENOPT paper. Shown here are load-deflection curves from STAGS compound models of imperfect optimized, internally ring and stringer stiffened cylindrical shells with T-stiffened weld lands spaced at 120 degrees.

These results correspond to GENOPT-optimized shells in which constraints were introduced on the slenderness ratios of the weld land T-stringer web and outstanding flange during optimization cycles.

The various general buckling modal imperfection shapes are shown in Figs. 44, 49 – 51, and 54 of the 2010 GENOPT paper.

The design load, 669345 lb, under which the shell was optimized by GENOPT corresponds to the STAGS load factor, PA = 1.0.
