BIGBOSOR4 models of hydrostatically compressed, internally ring-stiffened cylindrical shells previously optimized by PANDA2

This is Fig. 33 of the paper, "Additional Buckling Solutions in PANDA2", AIAA 40th Structures, Structural Dynamics and Materials Conference, AIAA Paper 99-1233, 1999, called "1999 addsoln paper" in some other slides.

Among other topics, that paper reports the addition to the PANDA2 "stable" of models a single discretized skin-ring module model. In the "skin-ring" module model "skin" is actually the panel skin plus smeared stringers if there are any stringers.

This slide shows several buckling modes from BIGBOSOR4 corresponding to an optimized design previously obtained by PANDA2 of an internally ring-stiffened, hydrostatically compressed cylindrical shell.

Notice that the four local buckling modes (a-d), although quite different from one another, have buckling load factors that are close to unity. The buckling mode (e) (uniform ovalization of the entire shell - a "wide ring" buckling mode) cannot occur if the radial displacement of the cylindrical shell is prevented at its two ends, which is always the case in PANDA2 models.
