Comparison of PANDA2 and BOSOR4 predictions from various models and shell theories for an axially compressed angle-ply laminated composite cylinder

Fig. 1 from the 1996 enhancements paper. This slide shows buckling loads for an axially compressed, 10-layered, angle-ply composite cylindrical shell. Notice the following:

(a) The Donnell shell theory is inadequate in the range, 55 < (layup angle) < 80 degrees,

(b) There is a significant influence of transverse shear deformation (t.s.d.),

(c) There is a significant influence of pre-buckling bending in the range, 10 < (layup angle) < 55 degrees.
