Various "global" buckling modes of an axially compressed sandwich "column"

These “global” buckling modes have wavelengths that are long compared to the thickness of a face sheet. The four images with the shorter wavelengths might, in a buckled test specimen, appear locally from core shear crimping. The buckling modes (b1) and (c1) are usually associated with smaller load factors (eigenvalues) than those associated with (b2) and (c2).
