General buckling of the axially compressed cylindrical shell with a truss-core sandwich wall

This is Fig. 21 from the 2011 GENOPT paper. This slide shows general buckling of the “nasatruss2” starting design (Table 3 of 2011.trusscomp) of the axially compressed, composite truss-core sandwich cylindrical shell.

A detail of the lower left-hand corner of this STAGS model is displayed in the previous slide. The STAGS 480 finite element is used for the shell segments, and the STAGS 928 finite element is used for the noodles, which are represented as discrete stringers. The noodles are not shown in this figure.
