Lateral-torsional buckling of a cantilever beam with a concentrated load at its end

The Figure shows a cantilever beam subjected to a point load P in the negative Z-direction at the neutral axis of the beam at the point E.

The beam with a conservative (constant directional) load and with no initial imperfection in the beam can be analyzed via a linear buckling formulation (Test a).

The beam with a non-conservative “following” load (load direction rotates with the end of the beam) and with an initial imperfection can be analyzed via nonlinear analysis (Test b).

The cantilever beam is discretized with the use of shell elements.
