delta-sub-C is the maximum lateral displacement of the column cross section at the midlength of the column; t-sub-w is the web thickness; t-sub-1 is the flange thickness; P-sub-E is the Euler buckling load; P-sub-C is the local bifurcation buckling load; e is the load eccentricity.

The ratio, (P-sub-C)/(P-sub-E), is essentially a measure of the column length, since the Euler buckling load of shorter columns is higher than that of longer columns, while the local bifurcation buckling load remains constant for load eccentricity, e = 0.
