Don Orr Brush and Bo. O. Almroth, Buckling of bars, plates and shells, McGraw-Hill, 1975, 375 pages

A unified treatment of bars, plates, and shells is offered in this introductory text. The methods of structural stability analysis are discussed within the context of elementary nonlinear bending analysis.

Equilibrium and stability equtions for strutural members are systematically developed. The structural members considered are columns, beams, beam-columns, flat plates, circular rings, cylindrical shells, and general shells.

For each kind of member the equations are derived in general form and then specialized for particular examples. Emphasis is on understanding the behavior of the member and on calculation of the critical load.
