From Robert Millard Jones (March 1012):
Ilyushin graduated in 1934 from Moscow State University (MSU) in aerodynamics.
In 1936 he became a Candidate of Sciences (PhD) and in 1939 - a Doctor of Sciences for the thesis "Deformation of Visco-Plastic Bodies".
In 1943 he was elected as the Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Sciences.
The most important positions:
1950-1952 - Rector of Leningrad State University,
1953-1960 - Director of the Institute of Mechanics of USSR Academy of Sciences
1943 - up to the end - Head of Theory of Elasticity Department of MSU.
