Obituary:
Robert Warren Leonard died on February 20, 2003 at the age of 76. Leonard served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of World War II. He went on to work for NASA at the Langley Research Center, where he headed the Structures and Dynamics Division and the Aircraft Energy Efficiency Project.
Leonard received NASA's Outstanding Leadership and Outstanding Performance awards and a NASA Group Achievement Award for contributing to Space Shuttle technology. He also received a special achievement award from Langley for sustained outstanding leadership of the structural mechanics research program and the Apollo 6 strength and flutter analysis.
Upon retiring from NASA, he went to work for McDonnell-Douglas in Long Beach, California.
