This nonlinearly optimized design was deemed unacceptable because the minimum radius from the axis of revolution to the shell wall reference surface is less than 30 inches. This minimum radius cannot be controlled directly by appropriate specification of a lower bound of YPLATE(i), i=1, 2, …, NSEG because YPLATE(i) are the radii from the axis of revolution to the shell wall reference surface at the junctions of major segments, not the minimum radii between those junctions. The shell had to be re-optimized with the use of a higher lower bound imposed on YPLATE(i), i=1, 2, …, NSEG than that previously specified in the GENOPT processor called “DECIDE”.
