Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China

Biography:
Dr. Weiqiu Chen received his B.S. degree in engineering mechanics and his Ph.D. degree in solid mechanics from Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, in 1990 and 1996, respectively. From 1997 to 1999, he was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. From 1996 to 2008, he was with the Department of Civil Engineering, Zhejiang University, where he became an Associate Professor in 1999, and a Full Professor in 2000. He moved to Department of Engineering Mechanics of the same university in 2009, and has been the Deputy Director of the Institute of Applied Mechanics from 2009 to 2013, and the Dean of Department of Engineering Mechanics from 2013 to 2017. His current research interests include the mechanics of soft materials and structures, mechanics of piezoelectric materials and devices, vibration and waves in structures, and analytical methods in applied mechanics. He is the author or coauthor of more than 350 refereed journal papers, among which about 300 are published in international journals. He has also coauthored four monographs, three in English and one in Chinese. His H-index is 45.
