Biography:
Prof. Dr. Mehdi Farshad has BS degree in Civil Engineering from Tehran University, MS and CE degrees in Civil Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University in USA, and PhD in Applied Mechanics from Stanford University in USA. He was Professor at the University of Shiraz from 1971 to 1991. During this period, he spent two years (1974-75 and 1985-86) as visiting professor at the University of Toronto, Canada. Since 1991, he is the Senior Scientist at EMPA (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Testing and Research) and Titular Professor at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH Zürich). He is the member of Swiss Experts and an expert of the Swiss Accreditation Organization (SAS). Professor Farshad is the author of over 200 research papers and 30 books, including "Design and analysis of shell structures, Kluwer 1992" and "Stability of Structures, Elesevier, 1994". His areas of specialty are composite materials and structures, shells, stability, Finite Element simulation, structural engineering, failure analysis, and pipeline engineering. He has led many projects in civil engineering including pipelines and has developed several innovative engineering methods and patents. He is the developer of the program ADAP.
