Fig. 30 from the 1997 modejump paper. This slide shows oscillations of the maximum hoop stress at a particular point in the model during the transient phase of the STAGS analysis (dynamic mode jump).

The callouts, (a – f), refer to the “snapshots” in the previous slide.

This oscillation of stress during a mode jump can cause delamination and early failure of an axially compressed, composite, stiffened panel.
