This is Fig. 20b from the 2011 GENOPT paper. This slide shows part of a STAGS model used for GENERAL buckling of the “nasatruss2” starting design (See Table 3 of the 2011 GENOPT paper) of the axially compressed, composite truss-core sandwich cylindrical shell.
Shown here is detail from the lower left-hand corner of the STAGS model used for predicting general buckling. This model has two 480 finite elements across the width of each of the six segments in each module of the 46-module general buckling model. A single module in this STAGS multi-module model is analogous to the GENOPT/BIGBOSOR4 module shown at the top of Fig. 6 in the 2011 GENOPT paper.
