Pre-buckled axisymmetric edge "boundary layer" deformation of axially compressed cylindrical shells

Given the radius R, the thinner and thinner the cylindrical shell, the more the axisymmetric pre-buckling deformation is confined to a shorter and shorter region near the edge, and the finer and finer a finite element mesh is required to capture this pre-buckling deformation accurately.
