A microsphere "glued" to a flat cantelever that can then be used (next slide) to compress the sphere against a rigid substrate

From the same paper as the previous 3 images.

Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) image of a spherical silica particle "glued" to an Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) cantilever. A polyelectrolyte multilayer capsule (PMC) can be glued to a cantilever with the use of a micromanipulator and small amounts of glue (less than 10^(- 15) l). The microsphere can then be compressed against a rigid flat substrate as demonstrated in the next slide, from which a load-deflection curve can be generated as displayed two slides hence.
