Shown here are results from the specific case called “oneskirt”: Further optimization of the long propellant tank with one skirt connected to the midlength of the cylindrical part of the propellant tank. The starting design at the beginning of this second execution of SUPEROPT is the same as that labeled, “Local optimum design no. 1” in the previous figure. Notice that there are more than one local optimum designs. This behavior makes it difficult to determine the “global” optimum design, calling for multiple successive executions of SUPEROPT.
