Shown here is the buckling pressure vs number of circumferential waves from two computerized (FASOR) models of the shallow conical ring-stiffened shell displayed in the previous slide:

1. the rings are modeled as “beams” the cross sections of which do not deform (dashed curve labeled "RING THEORY"),

2. the rings are modeled as little deformable segmented shell structures (solid curve labeled "BRANCHED-SHELL MODEL".

Note that there is a significant difference in the predicted critical bifurcation buckling load factor from the two different models. The previous slide shows why.
