This is Fig. 3 from the 2005 substiff paper. This slide shows a STAGS sub-domain model used for inter-ring and local buckling. The sub-domain model includes 3 major ring bays and 9 major stringer bays.
All major stiffeners and all sub-stiffeners are modeled with shell units. the STAGS 480 finite element is used.
This slide shows the STAGS bifurcation buckling mode 1 for the PANDA2-optimized perfect shell. The STAGS buckling load factor, Pcr = 0.97738. Pcr = 1.0 is the design load.
This and the next several slides demonstrate the various STAGS models that can be generated automatically by the PANDA2 processor called "STAGSUNIT", models of a shell that has previously been optimized by PANDA2.
