This is Fig. 42 from the 2007 axialcomp paper. This slide shows the linear PANDA2 design sensitivity study for Case 4 in Table 4 with respect to the Design Parameter (decision variable), B(STR) (inches).
B(STR) is the stringer spacing. Plotted here are design margins as a function of B(STR).
This is an example of PANDA2 being executed in a "design sensitivity" mode (ITYPE=3).
In order to run PANDA2 in its
"design sensitivity mode", the PANDA2 user chooses one of the decision variables [in this case the stringer spacing, B(STR)] and a range over which that chosen decision variable is to vary. PANDA2 then computes design margins for the user-selected range.
The value of B(STR) at the optimum design of the perfect shell is 0.9817 inch in this example.
