Inter-ring buckling of an imperfect ring and stringer-stiffened cylindrical shell under combined axial compression and external pressure

This is Fig. 36 from the 2006 PANDA2 paper. Shown here is a STAGS sub-domain model of a T-ring and T-stringer stiffened imperfect cylindrical shell that was previously optimized as imperfect by PANDA2. The shell is subjected to combined axial compression and external pressure.

The STAGS sub-domain model includes 60 degrees of the cylindrical shell; the stringers are smeared, the STAGS 480 finite element is used.

Shown here is nonlinear buckling of the imperfect shell, general buckling modal imperfection amplitude, Wimp = 1.0 inch. The general buckling modal imperfection shape is shown in the previous slide.

Shown here is the nonlinear bifurcation buckling mode 1. The buckling load factor PA from STAGS = 1.1244. (PA = 1.0 is the design load factor under which the panel was previously optimized by PANDA2.)

The buckling mode is inter-ring buckling.

This configuration is listed in Table 14 of the 2006 PANDA2 paper.
